Treat your mum to an outfit or some new pieces for her wardrobe this mother’s day or even make it a fun day out shopping together in Fforestfach Retail Parc. I give you a sneak peek of what shops are there, what bargains you can find and an insight into the fun girly challenge me and my mum got up to! Oh and not forgetting a £100 giveaway!
I have finally moved to Swansea hoorah, over the past few weeks I have bought lots of things from the gorgeous HomeSense shop in Fforestfach, as I am sure you will see in many future posts and Instagram photos, so when the PR for Fforestfach Retail Parc contacted me with a Mother’s Day challenge, well to say it brightened up my gloomy Tuesday morning is an understatement. Fforestfach is only a 15-minute drive from my townhouse in central Swansea and I have done it so many times, I no longer need my satnav boyfriend haha.
The challenge I accepted to take for mum and I was, to visit Fforestfach fashion shops in 4 hours only and to pick out an entire outfit for each other! Uh YES!!
Also, what better way to spoil your mum on mother’s day (okay yes ours was brought forward a little bit, so we could get this post to you) than a day out together shopping and sipping cappuccinos?
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my insta-story live on the day where I picked her up, walked around the shops to have a general nose then with (hoping) an idea in our mind we went shopping, searching for the right sizes, deals and totting up in our heads.
As you may have guessed or seen, we completed it in a respectable 3 hours. It was actually trickier than I first thought, to have to keep in budget and flit between different shops making sure we had something to cover all bases of an outfit.
I am normally a lover of H&M clothing and my mother New look, but for me, River Island was killing it with their spring pieces. I just wanted to go basket crazy and shove everything in, but had to behave and remember to buy an outfit for mum first! Then go back and get pieces, which I actually did. (oops)
The outfit I chose for mum –
I started with Black skinny jeans from River Island at £40.00 for the base, as I knew she would love a pair of fitting black skinny jeans of good quality!
I then went to Newlook and found a perfect putty grey off the shoulder lace top at £17.99, also found a pretty soft pink Biker Jacket to pair with at £29.99.
The shoes were the hardest part, my mum has wide feet so I ended up back in Newlook as they have a fab wide fitting range and I found some black chunky heels for only £17.99.
Mum has loads of rings but no stackable ones, which are still on trend for spring! So I found the perfect set in Next Clearance on sale. Bargain.
Mum isn’t one for makeup as such, but like me she loves lipstick, a quick pop into Boots (ha. You’re kidding right? I spent so much just on myself in there too) I found a light pink lipstick from Seventeen in the colour Saintly at only £3.99. Paired that with a very pretty eyeshadow palette from Bourjois for only £7.99 and in their deal of 2 for £14. I thought why not and picked up some volume mascara as my mum goes through some mascara a month!
My thoughts on the outfit I chose for mum – I am pretty pleased with myself, it overall seems very mum and I kept in the budget with a couple of pounds to spare. (That’ll pay for the cheeky eat in Greggs we had before)
Mums genuine reaction to the outfit – The outfit Charlotte chose I thought was very me, my favourite item is the heels as they will also go very well with my maxi dress. Multiple outfit buying item there, well done!
Mum didn’t have an outfit in mind for me when she went, but she knows I have more of an ‘edgier’ look now than I used to (well that’s what she calls it) but I love to add a nod of girly prettiness to my outfits.
Mum’s thoughts on her outfit for me – I went to Newlook with the idea to get Charlotte the Sateen tie up heels she has been after, but they didn’t stock them so opted for very similar in velvet, they are so similar and then based the outfit around them as the statement piece.
I thought the River Island £35 dress was very feminine and girly with the off the shoulder design, pairing that with a funky black printed top from H&M at £9.99. I also thought the dress was a perfect spring/summer outfit for her holiday soon. The jewellery I kept simple with a matching silver necklace and small hoops from M&S that I thought were unique. The bag was the nearest and best colour I could match to the shoes and is ideal for Charlotte to fit her tablet, keys, purse and makeup in from Clarks at £35.
My genuine reaction to the outfit – The tie up heels (cue heart eye emoji) I adore them, they are a perfect girly fun heel, that will get dirty so easily, but who cares they are gorgeous for such a reasonable price in Newlook that you can’t really complain. I get the look mum was going for and think it’s pretty cool, but overall as I am pretty slim, the dress and unfitted top make me look a bit shapeless in my opinion but totally cute against the heels. Totally going to rock the dress and heels together though!
The day we enjoyed thoroughly even with the welsh weather giving us its best, with Storm Doris still lurking. I would highly recommend a trip to Fforestfach for mother’s day present searching or even just for a browse around the shops together.
