Styling your tea dresses in Spring without going bare legged

I’ve seen so many people, myself included, complaining and wishing the warmer weather to come so that we can pull out our summer tea dresses with bare legs etc. But let’s be real unless we have a week-long heat wave in the UK during Spring time it barely goes past 13degrees and usually that’s accompanied by cold wind which brings it back to a chilly 6-8degrees. So, I’m going to share with you a couple of ways how you can wear those summer dresses before the double-figure temperatures.

Tights are kind of an obvious to me, I have several types, from thick fleece lined ones for winter to weather-sensitive ones from Primark and basic opaque tights I have them all. I wear them year round because I feel the cold! Honestly, I love nothing more than to be cwtchy warm and cosy. So, when I got given this red polka dot dress I couldn’t wait for another month or two to wear it, so I pulled out my trusty 120 denier black tights. You can also wear black leggings if you find those comfier.

Most tea dresses don’t have full-length sleeves or if they do, they’re probably not very long so opt for a jacket, I got this one via ASOS from Boohoo, it’s cropped so it sits nicely just above the hips for me. Opt for ones with buttons or zips that way it can be done up if it gets a bit chillier. I chose a black style denim jacket to compliment the black tights, I didn’t want to add too many colours to the outfit seen as it’s such a bold red. If you’ve got a blue or black dress, a blue denim jacket will compliment it better than black. You could also wear a maxi cardi if you really want the extra length to snuggle up in. Try looking for one that has slits up the side so it flows nicely.

A coat is optional and kinda depends on the weather but I’d definitely say a trench or duffle coat could work nicely with a tea dress and tights.

I really love to wear dresses with boots from ankle length to just below the knee. They are my favourite types to pair with tights and cute dresses, but you mightn’t want to opt for that as it gets warmer, so invest in a good pair of Vans or Converse. They’ll not only provide comfortable flat walking shoes but gosh do they wear well! They have got to be the only type of shoes that no matter how scuffed up you’ve got them over the years, they are still acceptable to wear! Obviously, you can opt for a cheap pair from Primark or the likes, like I have done over the years but honestly, the comfort on these vans is amazing for my soles – Haha yeah I know a lame joke!
